Many years ago when I met him, he was in a very different career. In that career, he was entrusted with considerable responsibility. I regularly saw him on visits to his place of work.

Some time later I bumped into James and found out what he was doing. I asked him to come and do the big autumn clear-up in the garden and consulted him about the problems I was having with the grass. My neighbour has a large plane tree, the grass needs some sunshine and I did not want to pave it. I was slightly horrified by his suggestion of astroturf. This was laid some years ago, my neighbours did not notice the change, James had researched and found the most suitable. That was my introduction to James the gardener as opposed to James in a suit.

I leave James with a key, knowing I can rely on his trustworthiness and common sense. His work in the garden is thorough and his gardening advice saves me from temptation in the garden centre. Gardening is a non-stop learning job, James has an enquiring mind and gives a lot of thought before giving advice.

James and his team initially completed a landscaping job in my small garden with enormous care and great attention to detail. It’s 100m2 and was a difficult space, as there was no way to bring in a digger so they had to excavate the clay by hand.

He advised on the best use of the space and then proceeded to terrace the garden by building a retaining sleeper wall, laying slabs and erecting fencing around the perimeter which provided me with the secluded space I craved for entertaining.
